Meet The Staff

Dr. Taja Peterkin-Mclean, DMFT, LPC

Owner/Outpatient Therapist: Phoenix, AZ Inspirational, positive and driven are some of the adjectives people often use to describe her. After losing her mother at 11 years old, Taja knew that she wanted to work with children/adolescents . She wanted to be the person she never had. Taja chose the path of mental health therapy as a way to uplift and encourage youth to find their voice and strive towards a better tomorrow.

Dr. Mclean has a bachelors degree in psychology, a masters in counseling with the specialty of school counseling and doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy. She is credentialed as a licensed professional counselor in the state of Pennsylvania as well as a certified school counselor in Pennsylvania and Delaware. She practices therapy from an eclectic approach gravitating towards creative therapies which include both art and play therapy. She has extensive experience working with children and adolescents with behavioral issues, anxiety, depression and anger management concerns. Her work in schools and community mental health agencies had allowed her to work and understand how to work with diverse backgrounds of children and their families.

Some of Taja’s future aspirations include traveling around the world, opening a community center and expanding Heart of Gold Counseling nation-wide.

Angela Abraham, MA, CBIS

Outpatient Therapist: Philadelphia, PA As the first member of her family to be born in America, Angela’s experience as the daughter of Indian immigrants fostered her love of community and helping others. During her high school and college years, she noticed a need for mental health resources in her community. She decided she wanted to become part of the change. This experience later grew into a career dedicated to serving those who lack access to mental health resources.  Angela holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in mental health counseling. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

 

Angela has also a Certified Brain Injury Specialist. Angela has a very warm, welcoming, and collaborative approach. Together, the client and Angela will work together to tackle shared goals. Angela primarily practices from a Cognitive-Behavioral model of therapy with added creative bases. She has previously worked at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) with families, children and adolescents experiencing a diverse array of concerns. During her time at CHOP, Angela worked with parents to help better understand and rally around their children while also facilitating communication. 

 

            Some of Angela’s favorite things to do are watch football, dance, try new foods, and travel. She loves pets and has a cat named Simba.

Dr. Lenore Schaffer, PHD

Parent Coach: New York, New York Dr. Lenore Schaffer is the Senior Manager of Economic Empowerment at Restore NYC, an anti-trafficking organization based in New York. She oversees the curriculum development and execution of job readiness, job placement, and job retention interventions for survivors of human trafficking. Before joining Restore in 2019, she was The University of Southern Mississippi’s first Deputy Title IX Coordinator. In this role, she assisted in the oversight, leadership, and coordination of Title IX compliance and the University’s Sexual Misconduct Policy. Altogether, she has more than seven years of experience in higher education and teaching, policy and program development, and counseling. Lenore obtained an M.Ed. in Counseling & Human Services from Lehigh University in 2012. During her studies, she received training in positive parenting and is a Certified Positive Discipline Parenting Educator (CPDPE). In 2017, she graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi with a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration. Lenore is also the proud mom of a capable, thoughtful, and spirited soon-to-be 3-year-old! She’s originally from the country of Antigua & Barbuda (an island girl), enjoys watching anything Marvel-related, and cherishes family time with her husband and daughter.
